ABOUT

On the Back Porch is a Turtle Bay series that features eight talented jazz musicians from around the US, with in-depth interviews and acoustic performances of early jazz music standards. Shot on the back porch at the Turtle Bay headquarters, the series is hosted by Sweet Megg and Ricky Alexander.

Label owner Scott Asen originally conceived the On the Back Porch series with the goal of creating a community among jazz artists in New York. Co-host Ricky Alexander described “the importance of 'the hang', and how social collision and spending time together can augment the music.” Sweet Megg said, “We chose these artists because these are people whom we work with who all have in common a deep personal style of musicianship that intrigued us. Most of the time we see each other at gigs and are too busy playing to have time to ask questions or really hang out.” Ricky added, “Because of the intimate nature of playing music together, we already can tell a lot about someone's style and influences, so it was very natural and easy to ask questions about what we heard in these amazing players and where it all came from.”

On the Back Porch video series will be available on the TBR YouTube channel.
