The New Wonders
Amidst the vibrant jazz backdrop of New York City, a revitalized generation of jazz artists has breathed new life into the scene, drawing inspiration from the 1920s and 30s. Leading this charge is cornetist, arranger, and vocalist Mike Davis, a prominent figure in the traditional jazz movement for a decade. Now, Davis steps into the spotlight with his debut album, The New Wonders, showcasing 13 tracks that pay homage to the authentic style while infusing it with a contemporary twist. The New Wonders features a cast of luminaries from the NYC traditional jazz scene, including Ricky Alexander (clarinet, alto sax, vocals), Joe McDonough (trombone), Jared Engel (banjo), Dalton Ridenhour (piano), Jay Rattman (bass sax, vocals), and Jay Lepley (drums, vocals). The band's name pays homage to Bix Beiderbecke, a jazz icon of the 1920s, and his favored cornet model.
